Don't Cry For Artist Carlos Grasso, Argentina!

South America's Favorite Wandering Son Is Deconstructing Painting All Over Southern CA and He's Stripping Down A Storm

Isn't it just like an Argentinian flautist to travel to France and play misty like a Jean Pierre Rampal, while learning how to multi-task like a more focused Jean Cocteau...the French poet, writer, designer, playwright, artist and filmmaker, who Grasso seemed to emulate, in one of his earliest drawings, of the French American Daltonian, Jane Pasquier, now DeVaugelas?

Grasso calls his newest paintings "Deconstructions" and he just finished a 3-day gallery showing at his open studio in Ojai, CA.

“For a long time now I felt I wanted to use the canvas as “material” instead of just being a background to paint on. That prompted me to start tearing apart canvas to create sculptural pieces and called this beginning series 'Canvas Deconstruction'. Further on, the tearing apart became more of a stripping the canvas horizontally which then developed into an installation for Burning Man 2017 called Solaris."

Whatever goes on at Burning Man better stay at Burning Man or at least, stay away from my house, where privacy seems to be in short supply wherever I live and one look at Solaris reminds me of a beaded curtain I once had as a pass through between my kitchen and living room, that I never used full monty even when I was by myself.

Grasso has more serious concerns when it comes to a 'Challenged Landscape,' in a same-titled painting that takes your breath away.

His next public gallery showing will be a joint exhibition with Ojai artist Peter Fox but you can see all of his work online: studio@carlosgrasso.com; www.carlosgrasso.com (store)
