Red Penguin Books Publisher to Demystify
Many Publishing Paths Authors Can Take
The San Fernando Valley branch of the California Writers Club, serving Los Angeles and Ventura counties, welcomes live from New York City via Zoom Red Penguin Books publisher Stephanie Larkin as the keynote speaker on Saturday, June 6 at 1 pm with a topic titled “Publishing 101: Traditional, Hybrid, and DIY—Oh, My!”
In-person guests can also enjoy the feed for free at the Motion Picture and TV Fund, Saban Center, 23388 Mulholland Drive, in Woodland Hills if attending for the first time, network with CWC-SFV members, sign up to become members themselves, and ask questions directly to the guest speaker. Zoom guests pay $10.
Larkin says, “The world of publishing has never offered more choices or more confusion—for authors. Should you pursue a traditional publishing deal, partner with a hybrid press, or take matters into your own hands and self-publish? Each pathway comes with unique benefits, challenges, costs, and levels of creative control.”
In this informative and eye-opening session, publishing expert Larken will demystify the process and attendees through the ins and outs of today’s publishing landscape. Lessons to be learned include:
●What traditional publishers are looking for—and what authors can realistically expect.
●How hybrid publishing works, including the pros and cons of investing in your own book’s success.
●The nuts and bolts of DIY self-publishing, from formatting to distribution.
●Common myths and misconceptions that derail authors.
●How to decide which publishing model best aligns with your goals, budget, and vision.
Whether you’re dreaming of seeing your book on bookstore shelves, craving the freedom of doing it yourself, or searching for a balance of both, this session will give writers the clarity and confidence to choose the right publishing path.
Larkin is the “head penguin” of Red Penguin Books, an independent publishing company that works with authors of all genres from around the world. Red Penguin Books has published hundreds of titles by writers across six continents.
An author herself, Larkin wrote “Bookology,” along with several other books on writing and publishing, and she has ghostwritten numerous nonfiction works. She is also the host of “The Author Corner,” an award-winning educational cable TV series airing in Queens and Long Island on Verizon and Optimum and available worldwide on podcast platforms.
Guided by the motto “Changing lives … one book at a time!” Larkin is passionate about helping authors bring their voices to the world.
