Cold Storm To Bring Chance of Rain

A storm from the coast of Alaska will bring a chance of rain and snow early in the week.

Put away the Easter hat, and prepare for rain and high-country snow: a winter storm may be headed towards the Southland.

A cold, upper-level low pressure system from offshore of Alaska might sweep south, forecasters said.

Up to a quarter of an inch of rain may fall Tuesday night and Wednesday morning in the foothills and mountains of the region, and snow could fall as low as the 5,000-foot contour, said forecasters at the National Weather Service Los Angeles office, at Oxnard.

Accumulations of snow were predicted to be about 2-4 inches above 5,500- feet, and maybe up to a half foot in some places. The showery nature of the storm might bring snow as low as 4,000 in some places Tuesday night, which is just low enough to possibly affect Interstate 5 over the Grapevine and Interstate 15 over Cajon Pass, and possibly near Nevada.

Most of the area stands to get a tenth of an inch of rain, but areas that get updrafts overhead due to local terrain may get up to .25 inches.

Not enough rain is expected to trigger worries about debris flows in local mountains where the soil is unstable due to brushfires, the NWS said.

For Easter Sunday, the grass can be expected to be wet and sunrise skies were expected to be foggy and moist, with temperatures near 55 in the Los Angeles and Orange County coastal plains.
