Community Rallies Around Local Family Whose Dog Was Stabbed
A Woodland Hills family is reeling this week thanks to the generosity of the community that rallied around them after their dog was stabbed.
LOS ANGELES, CA — It’s been a whirlwind week for a Woodland Hills family who saw their beloved dog stabbed by a stranger followed by an outpouring of support from the community.
This week, Oscar and Adam Kaiz-Vera’s 15-year-old son took their 8-and-a-half-year-old rescue dog Coco, a terrier mix, for a walk. He encountered a strange man who attacked the little dog with a knife, reported Fox 11 News.
“I'm just trying to picture it with my son seeing a man there waving a knife at our tiny dog," Adam Kaiz-Vera told the news station. "My son yelled, 'she's just a little dog.' He yelled 'stop' twice and the man said 'I fear for my life,' like he made a proclamation. The neighbor said that he yelled out, 'dog or human, I will protect myself.”

The boy and his dog managed to escape. Coco suffered a stab wound to the head, however. The little dog survived, but vet bills mounted for the family that had recently moved to the neighborhood after being displaced by the wildfires.
Though they hadn’t met many of their neighbors, they were touched to learn that several anonymous neighbor’s reached out to the veterinary clinic pay for half of Coco’s $4,000 bill, Fox 11 reported.
