Thunderstorm Brings Flash Flood Threat to Local Mountains
A thunderstorm moving into the region today will move slowly bringing downpours that could cause flash floods in local mountains.
An upper-level low spinning into the region from Nevada is expected to bring thunderstorms and flooding today to parts of Southern California, including the San Gabriel Mountains and the Antelope Valley, forecasters said.
A flash flood watch will be in force from 2 p.m. through this evening in the Antelope Valley and the San Gabriels in Los Angeles County.
“Any thunderstorm that develops will move slowly,” warned an NWS statement. “This will concentrate the storm’s rainfall over a smaller area, leading to a greater chance of flash flooding.”

“A flash flood watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding,” noted the NWS statement. “There is a potential for dangerous and sudden inundation of roadways by swift-moving water. There is a potential for dangerous torrents of water moving down steep terrain.”
Southland temperatures were expected to be in the 70s and 80s today, reaching 90 in some areas.
