Tropical Storm to Bring Humidity, Chance of Rain

The weekend will be cloudy and muggy with a chance of rain and lightning and thunderstorms, forecasters predict.

Clouds, humidity and possible thunderstorms are on tap for the weekend in Southern California, thanks primarily to Tropical Storm Dolores churning off the coast of Baja California.

According to National Weather Service forecasters, tropical moisture from the storm will bring warm and muggy conditions to the area, with cloud cover expected to begin building tonight.

Forecasters said the tropical air “will lead to the possibility of thunderstorms as well as significant increases in moisture and cloud cover for Saturday through Monday.”

There is a roughly 30 percent chance of rain on Saturday, with the possibility of showers and thunderstorms. The storm chance for Sunday is about 20 percent, according to the NWS.

But it will be mostly cloudy most of the weekend, albeit warm and humid, with temperatures in the 70s at the beach and the 80s inland, reaching into the 90s in the valleys.

Forecasters also warned that with the chance of thunderstorms comes the danger of lightning strikes, which can spark brush fires.

Dolores is moving toward the northwest and is expected to be reduced to a tropical depression by Sunday night, forecasters said.

Strong surf is also expected at the beach, prompting warnings from forecasters and the U.S. Coast Guard for people to be cautious if venturing into the water.
