Waste Management Awards West Valley Los Angeles Police Department with 2015 Think Green(R) Grant

Thirty-Nine Keep America Beautiful Affiliates and Partner Organizations Receive Grants to Support Local Community Improvement Initiatives

Keep America Beautiful, the nation’s leading nonprofit that builds clean, green and beautiful communities, and Waste Management (NYSE:WM) today announced that West Valley Los Angeles Police Department has been awarded a 2015 Waste Management Think Green® Grant of $5,000. West Valley Los Angeles Police Department’s Think Green® Grant is one of 39 awarded to Keep America Beautiful community-based affiliates and partner organizations across the country.

The Waste Management Think Green® Grants are part of the environmental services company’s commitment to encourage the development and sustainability of environmental solutions that improve a community’s environment. The merit-based grant program supports projects that are implemented to address local community needs.

West Valley Los Angeles Police Department and West Valley Community Police Advisory Board are using its Think Green® Grant to expand the organics and composting program at Garden Grove Elementary aimed at improving the quality of life of students by teaching the very important skill of composting and gardening to children as teachers, students and law enforcement come together to beautify the campus.

“We are very excited to have the opportunity to expand this very important program that has so many students feeling pride in their beautiful new garden and newly acquired skills they can share with their family and loved ones,” said Captain John Egan of West Valley Los Angeles Police Department.

As a community partner, the local Waste Management team in Los Angeles has been instrumental in partnering with West Valley Community Police Advisory Board and providing guidance and support with the launch of the program.

“We look forward to continuing to support the efforts of the West Valley Los Angeles Police Department as we work together to enhance the lives of children by teaching them valuable life skills of composting, gardening and recycling in our quest to conserve natural resources,” shared Kimberly Ohrt of Waste Management in Los Angeles.

This is the ninth year Waste Management and Keep America Beautiful have collaborated on community-based grant initiatives. During that time, Waste Management and Keep America Beautiful have awarded more than $1.3 million in grant monies to affiliates and partners in support of more than 205 community service projects and programs.

Waste Management has supported Keep America Beautiful programs for many years, including as a sponsor of America Recycles Day and the Keep America Beautiful/Ad Council public service advertising campaign – “I Want To Be Recycled.”
