Woodland Hills Grandmother Critically Hurt In Hit And Run

Police are asking for help finding the driver of an Astro van who struck and 83-year-old woman and fled the scene: BREAKING

WOODLAND HILLS, CA — An 83-year-old grandmother remained hospitalized in critical condition Tuesday after being struck and dragged nearly two weeks ago in Woodland Hills by a van whose driver left the scene.

The woman was hit by a Chevrolet Astro van at 8:35 p.m. on May 24 on the White Oak Avenue off-ramp from the southbound Ventura (101) Freeway, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Leland Tang.

"She was crossing the off-ramp within the crosswalk when she was struck by the Astro van," Tang said. "The van knocked the (woman) down onto the roadway and then proceeded to drive over her dragging her into the intersection."

The van driver stopped momentarily but then fled the scene without rendering aid or exchanging information as required, Tang said.

The woman remains at Northridge Hospital, he said.

The CHP is investigating the hit-and-run and asks anyone who might have seen the collision or has information about the van to call (818) 888-0980 to speak with Officer J. Rodriguez.
