Prosecutors argued he should remain jailed without bail, while his defense stressed he was only the landlord and not present at the blast, as the court applied new California bail standards.

2. Summer Reading Program Underway (westsacramentonewsledger.com) — Yolo County Library’s free Summer Reading Program is now underway through August 15, offering kids, teens, and adults prizes, free books, and even River Cats tickets for meeting reading goals. Branches across Yolo County will also host dinosaur crafts, animal encounters, magic shows, and more, giving local families plenty of ways to keep literacy skills strong and stay entertained all summer.

First 5 Yolo Commission announces appointment of Victoria Zimmerle as the agency's CEO (dailydemocrat.com) — A key early-childhood agency in Yolo County is getting new leadership, as First 5 Yolo has appointed longtime deputy director Victoria Zimmerle to succeed retiring CEO Gina Daleiden on July 12. Zimmerle, a UC Davis MBA graduate, has helped expand programs and funding that support young children and families across Yolo County, and local officials say her promotion should keep those vital services strong despite looming budget pressures.

4. Nutrition program benefits growers and inmates alike (agalert.com) — A Yolo County-based food hub and local farmer are helping supply fresh California-grown produce to all 30 state prisons, including Solano in Vacaville, improving inmates’ diets and well-being. Through the Harvest of the Month program, Spork Food Hub and growers like Tim Mueller gain a steady, year-round market that supports farm jobs, local schools, and more stable rural communities.
