• Enter Sandman, Yuba City Haunted House Returns (colusacountynews.com) — A free, homegrown haunted house is returning to 441 Pelican Place in Yuba City with a new “Sandman” serial-killer theme and expanded layout. Crowds are expected to be large, and the creator has even requested a nearby street closure for safety. The attraction runs select evenings Oct. 16–30, is not open on Halloween, and is not recommended for young children.
   

• Sutter County committee to weigh $296,100 Yuba City school probation amendment (sidekick.news) — A Sutter County committee will meet Oct. 5 in Yuba City to consider a $296,100 amendment with Yuba City Unified School District that keeps three probation officers on local campuses. The deal would split the $592,200 cost between YCUSD and the county using federal and state funds. A recommendation would then go to the Board of Supervisors, potentially shaping safety support at River Valley, Yuba City High, and Gray Avenue Middle schools.
   

• Longtime Plumas Street diner, Linda's Soda Bar & Grill, closes its doors in rough economy (appeal-democrat.com) — Linda’s Soda Bar & Grill, a beloved Plumas Street diner, has closed after decades of serving burgers, shakes, and small-town conversation to Yuba-Sutter regulars. Owner and Yuba City native Lori Pack says rising costs and fewer diners finally made the numbers impossible, forcing layoffs and seven-day workweeks. She’s now hoping a buyer will step in to revive the classic spot locals have long treated like a second home.
