Centennial Man Who Killed Doctor Gets Life Plus 352 Years

Kevin Lee Lyons pleaded guilty last month to killing Dr. Kenneth Atkinson who was trying to aid two others shot by Lyons .

The Centennial man who pleaded guilty last month to shooting and killing a doctor who was trying to help two other shooting victims will spend the rest of his life behind bars. And then some. A judge on Monday told Kevin Lee Lyons that he will spend life in prison. Plus 352 years.

It was April 5, 2016 when Lyons opened fire near the intersection of East Kettle Avenue and East Long Circle South.

Lyons originally wounded his wife and Laurie Juergens, a neighbor.

When Dr. Kenneth Atkinson ran out of his home to help the wounded women, Lyons shot him, killing him.

Lyons would tell police that his wife was "a two headed snake" that he had to kill.

Arapahoe District Attorney George Brauchler had rejected an earlier attempt by Lyons to plead guilty, saying he wanted to gather all the facts as he was considering the death penalty.
