Gov. Polis Tests Positive For COVID-19

Gov. Jared Polis has tested positive for COVID-19, according to a statement released by his office Saturday evening.

First Gentleman Marlon Reis also tested positive for the disease caused by the coronavirus, according to the statement, which said the couple learned the news Saturday evening. Polis had entered quarantine on Wednesday after learning that he had been exposed to someone who tested positive for COVID-19. A statement from the governor’s office Wednesday said he had taken a test and that the test came back negative.

“Marlon and I are feeling well so far, and are in good spirits,” Polis said in the statement Saturday. “No person or family is immune to this virus. I urge every Coloradan to practice caution, limit public interactions, wear a mask in public, stay six feet from others, and wash your hands regularly.”

Polis and Reis reportedly are asymptomatic. The governor “will continue to fulfill his duties and responsibilities and continue to work remotely,” the statement says.

After the announcement on Wednesday that the governor would quarantine, Newsline submitted questions to the governor’s office about the circumstances of the exposure, including when it occurred and who else in government might have been exposed. A spokesperson responded to the questions with this two-sentence reply: “The Governor has tested negative and is being monitored and we will let you know if anything changes. This does not alter his plan to spend Thanksgiving with his immediate household and he will follow CDC and CDPHE guidelines.”
