Hygiene Toddler Nearly Drowns

The 19-month-old child had fallen in the pool, was rescued by family members, and rushed to the hospital.

A 19-month old child from Hygiene is lucky to be alive after nearly drowning in a pool. The Boulder County Sheriff's Office received a call just after 1:30 Saturday afternoon from a home on the 7400 block of Rozena Drive.

The caller said the child was found in the pool, rescued by family members, but was not breathing.

Members of the Hygiene Fire Protection District and AMR Ambulance responded to the scene along with sheriff's deputies.

The first two rescuers on scene performed CPR on the child, but stopped a short time later when a pulse was located.

The toddler was rushed to the hospital by ambulance for further treatment and evaluation.

The circumstances on how the child entered the pool security enclosure at the home are not known, but it is believed that the toddler was in the water no longer than one or two minutes at most.

Deputies are continuing their investigation at the scene, but all indications suggest nothing more than an accident occurred.

The toddler does not live at the home but was there with his parents and other family members for a barbecue.
