Loveland Kidnapping -Torture: Larimer Co. Sheriff Seeks Suspect

LARIMER COUNTY, CO -- Larimer Co. Sheriff's deputies are searching for a Greeley man in connection with the early October kidnapping and torture of a man who reportedly wanted to reunite with an ex-girlfriend. Instead, officials say, he was pushed into a car trunk, burned with a gas-heated knife and beaten, allegedly by the woman's cousin and an accomplice, allegedly her new boyfriend.

Crime Stoppers said Jaime Patricio Galvan, 25, of Greeley, is wanted because he allegedly took part in the brutal kidnapping. Wednesday, officers took Eric Madaleno, 24, into custody. Madaleno is expected to be charged Monday with first-degree assault, second-degree kidnapping, robbery and possession of a controlled substance.

Police allege the victim contacted Madaleno and asked him to arrange a meeting with his ex-girlfriend, Madaleno's cousin. According to a Coloradoan account of the arrest documents, Madaleno instructed the victim to drive to Loveland from Greeley where he allegedly told the victim to get into the trunk of a car at a gas station to hide from Galvan, the new boyfriend. Galvan and the victim had already had one fight, the Coloradoan reported.

The Coloradan reported how the victim was allegedly tortured by Galvan and Madaleno and escaped:

The victim told investigators that in the home, they used a propane torch to heat up a large metal knife blade, which they placed against his skin. They also beat him with a metal rod, according to arrest documents. More than 24 hours after he was taken in the trunk of the vehicle, the victim was able to escape the home in the middle of the night and contact someone he knew, who took him to get medical treatment [at a burn center in Aurora].

Madaleno is in custody at the Larimer County Jail on a $10,000 bond. He is due back in court on Monday.
