Thornton Girl Found Dead; Investigation Ongoing

Thornton Police hope that an autopsy scheduled for Friday sheds some light on why a 10-year-old girl died. The body of Kiaya Campbell was found about two miles from where she was reported as having been last seen Wednesday night during a heavy storm.

An Amber alert had been issued and hundreds of volunteers and law enforcement officials from nearly two dozen agencies had been helping search for Campbell whose body was discovered in a green belt area near 128th Avenue and Jasmine Court by a resident who called 9-1-1. Investigators are trying to determine if foul play was involved or whether she was swept away in a flash flood.

Campbell was reported missing Wednesday night and discovered around 5:30 Thursday afternoon.
