Thornton Murder: Teen Arrested In Connection With Girl's Death

A 15-year-old Thornton teen is under arrest in connection with the death of 10-year-old Kiaya Campbell. The arrest was made Saturday night. Police say the teen is under arrest for investigation of first degree murder.

Campbell disappeared Wednesday night as she walked with a 15-year-old acquaintance during a heavy storm. Police have not said if that is the 15-year-old under arrest.

An Amber alert had been issued and hundreds of volunteers and law enforcement officials from nearly two dozen agencies had been helping search for Campbell.

Her body was found in a green belt area near 128th Avenue and Jasmine Court by a resident who called 9-1-1. It was about two miles from where she had been reported as last being seen. (For more information on this and other local stories, subscribe to your local Patch for breaking news alerts.)

Investigators are trying to determine if foul play was involved or whether she was swept away in a flash flood.

Campbell was reported missing Wednesday night and discovered around 5:30 Thursday afternoon.
