Thornton Teen Charged With First-Degree Murder In Kiaya Campbell Death

The 10-year-old's body was found two days after she disappeared.

The teenager who was arrested in connection with the death of 10-year-old Kiaya Campbell has now been formally charged with killing her. The 15-year-old, whose name is not being released because he is being tried as a juvenile, faces two counts of first-degree murder.

One of the counts is murder with intent and the other is murder by a person in a position of trust.

Campbell had been reported last seen the evening of June 7th when she was walking in a rainstorm with a 15-year-old. (For more information on this and other local stories, subscribe to your local Patch for breaking news alerts.)

An Amber Alert was issued and she was found about two miles away two days later.

Police have not said if the 15-year-old she was walking with is the 15-year-old who has been charged.
