Arvada City Council Approves Organized Waste Hauling System

The years-long process to come up with a suitable waste hauling system for Arvada has finally concluded.

ARVADA, CO — Arvada City Council has approved an organized, citywide waste hauling system. In a public hearing and council meeting Monday, the ordinance and agreements to institute the system were approved by a vote of 4 to 3.

Through the new system, the city aims to reduce the number of waste hauling trucks on city streets, which will in turn reduce wear and tear on roads, noise and air pollution. The new system will reduce the costs of trash hauling services for most residents, officials said. An organized system is also expected to increase recycling options and improve the quality of customer service.

Through a competitive proposal process, the city negotiated an agreement with the waste hauling company Republic Services, which fulfilled the project requirements, officials said.

The city and Republic Services are working on finalizing an implementation plan, officials said. Within the next 6 to 12 months, the city is expected to select a cart provider and residents will be invited to choose cart sizes. The program is slated to begin July 2021.

Details about the project and next steps, including implementation, will be posted to the project website as they become available, the city said.
