Arvada Organized Waste Hauling: City Announces Public Hearing
The years-long process to come up with a suitable waste hauling system for Arvada is coming to an end.
ARVADA, CO — The City of Arvada has announced a public hearing June 15 to gather input on the city's organized waste hauling project. City council "will hear and consider public comment and make a decision," officials said.
Based on results from the last three community surveys and recommendations from the citizen-based Arvada Sustainability Advisory Committee, the city council directed the city team to seek an organized waste hauling system that would reduce wear and tear on city streets, pollution and costs for most residents, officials said. The system would also have to increase recycling options and the quality of customer service for the community.
“The Arvada Sustainability Advisory Committee has heard from many residents during our four-plus years of outreach, and the majority say that they want lower costs, more choices and recycling services, fewer trucks on their neighborhood streets, and better customer service,” said Arvada Sustainability Advisory Committee Chair Keegan Conley.

“Seventy percent of the country already benefits from an organized waste hauling system, which we believe is the most efficient, affordable, and environmentally friendly way of transporting our waste to the landfill while also greatly increasing the recycling options in our community.”

Through a competitive proposal process, the city negotiated a proposed agreement with a waste hauler that addresses the project requirements, officials said. Council is considering the proposed agreement and the related ordinance as part of the June 15 meeting. The ordinance and proposed agreement are available here.
The city will host a remote public forum at 6 p.m. Thursday for the public, which will include a presentation of the organized system followed by a community question and answer session. Community members can submit questions and feedback for the forum in advance and during the forum by emailing WasteHauling@arvada.org. Those who do not have access to email may submit questions in advance during business hours until 5 p.m. Thursday at 720-898-7000. The forum will be broadcast live on Comcast channels 8 and 880 and on the city's website. A recording of the forum will be available online the following day, the city said.
The city is also offering opportunities to share feedback on the Speak Up Arvada online engagement platform, and to ask questions by email at WasteHauling@arvada.org, by phone at 720-898-7000, or at in-person, by-appointment office hours events tentatively planned for early in June, pending continued rollout of in-person services, the city said. Strict safer-at-home safety guidelines will be followed.
