Arvada Police Issue Rattlesnake Warning
Rattlesnakes are out in full force this time of year, the Arvada Police Department warned.
ARVADA, CO — Rattlesnakes are out and love to bask in the summer sun just as much as humans do. The Arvada Police Department is warning residents to be vigilant.
"Rattlesnakes are out in full force this time of year and spend a lot of time sunning themselves and hunting small animals in grassy areas," the department said in a social media post. "People often confuse other types of snakes for a rattlesnake, but one thing is a dead giveaway: the rattle!"
Rattlesnakes will give plenty of warning if you enter their territory, so listen carefully, police said.

"To keep yourself safe, always watch where you walk in tall grass, parks, and open space paths. Keep your dogs on leash and close by, [and] do not allow them to sniff bushes or high grass where a rattlesnake could be taking cover."
