GOLDEN, CO — A body found in a Golden canal was identified as missing Arvada resident James Mitchell, 87 on Wednesday.

A cleanup crew from the City of Golden found Mitchell's body Monday beneath a bridge in the Farmer's Highline Canal near Easley Way and 44th Avenue around 3:30 p.m. The body was found about 7.5 miles away from where Mitchell's abandoned truck was found at the Golden Depot.

Mitchell, who suffered from dementia, went missing in mid-December. Railroad workers at the depot in Golden notified Golden Police a pickup truck had crashed into one of the railcars near 10th and Vasquez Streets sometime during the night. The truck was abandoned on scene with no sign of the driver. Blood was found inside the truck cab. Mitchell's son confirmed his father was missing.
