Colorado Springs Fugitive Nabbed in K9 Manhunt

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO -- Arvada Police released more information about a Dec. 22 manhunt in which a fugitive was tracked down with the help of the K9 unit and a Denver Police helicopter. Arvada police said multiple police departments worked to track down David Luna, of Security, who was wanted for skipping parole on charges of attempted murder of a peace officer and escape.
Luna and an unidentified female passenger were spotted by Arvada police officers looking for a stolen car near 64th and Indiana Ave., a police statement said. The car quickly sped off, driving over several medians, and was tracked by Denver Police dept.'s Air1 police helicopter and Wheat Ridge police.
Luna reportedly abandoned the vehicle near 57th & Secrest and ran into a nearby field, where he was tracked by an Arvada officer and K9 police dog Jax, according to Arvada police. Jax located the suspect hiding in the creek. Luna was found to be wanted on a Colorado Department of Corrections parole violation warrant. Luna was charged in 2002 with two counts of attempted murder of a peace officer and escape.
In fact, he was added to the most wanted fugitive list in the Pikes Peak region just last week, Arvada Police said. The female suspect was taken into custody without incident.
