Coronavirus Update In Arvada: More Than 290 Cases Confirmed

ARVADA, CO — According to government data posted Monday afternoon, there were 296 cases of the new coronavirus on the Jefferson County side of Arvada. Unfortunately a case count for Adams County Arvadans wasn't available.

Arvada cases make up around 23 percent of all cases in Jefferson County, the data show.

Cases in neighboring Jeffco areas:

• Lakewood: 466 cases
• Wheat Ridge: 92 cases
• Edgewater: 18 cases

Since the COVID-19 outbreak began, there have been 1,391 cases of the new coronavirus in Adams County, and 1,276 cases in Jefferson County.

Jefferson and Adams counties have extended the stay-at-home order through May 8; however, the extended order in both counties differs from the previous statewide order — non-critical businesses are now allowed to offer curbside delivery of products, health officials said.

"Our goal has always been to reduce the severity of this crisis with as short a disruption to people's economic livelihoods as possible. We hope this update to enable non-Critical Businesses to begin operating in this manner helps us start to get back on our feet," Mark Johnson, Jefferson County Public Health's executive director, said in a statement.

Denver, Boulder, Broomfield and Arapahoe counties have also extended their stay-at-home orders through May 8.

“We want to get people back to work as soon as it is safer to do so,” John Douglas, executive director of Tri-County Health Department, said in a statement.

“This extension in Adams and Arapahoe will give us more time to do several things: expand public health measures such as testing and contact notification, develop and implement strategies in partnership with our business community on how to safely reopen, and to encourage the public to practice social distancing and other safety measures — all of which should hopefully reduce the spread of this disease.”

The data company SafeGraph posted a report that shows the percent of people staying home in each county, and the study shows that Jefferson County is ranked No. 4 in the state for compliance, and Adams County is No. 14.

According to government data posted Monday afternoon, 13,879 people were infected with the new coronavirus in Colorado among 66,341 people who have been tested since the outbreak began. There were 2,485 people hospitalized, and the death toll has reached 706.
