Local businesses are the heart of our communities. Patch had a chance to talk with Sarah Smith, Sales and Marketing Director of Arbor View Senior Living.

Patch: Tell us a bit about your business or organization:
Sarah Smith: Arbor View Senior Living is a Colorado-based retirement community offering independent living, assisted living and respite care services for seniors aged 55+. Conveniently located in a quiet neighborhood situated atop Hackberry Hill, the 13-acre campus offers a serene retirement lifestyle with breathtaking mountain views and is within a short driving distance of Olde Town Arvada’s retail shops, restaurants, parks, and performing art venues. Arbor View Senior Living is locally owned and managed by WellAge Senior Living, a respected senior care management company.

Patch: How long have you been doing business in town, or how long has your organization been around in the community?
Sarah Smith: Arbor View Senior Living, formerly known as Colorado Lutheran Home, has served Colorado’s aging population since 1964. Now managed by WellAge Senior Living, the community offers independent and assisted living with access to wellness-focused programs and services. For over 60 years, families have trusted Arbor View Senior Living and the dedicated team at WellAge to provide compassionate care, housing and support.

Patch: What attracted you to the line of work you’re in, and how did you get started?
Sarah Smith: I found my way into senior living thanks to a friend and my boss, Laura Hale. I started at a different senior living community working at the front desk, and it didn’t take long for me to realize how much I loved the environment, the residents and the relationships that are built within this field. What started as a front desk position quickly turned into a true passion for serving seniors and supporting families through important transitions. Over the years, I worked my way into a Move-In Coordinator role and later became a Memory Care Director, which gave me the opportunity to grow both personally and professionally while gaining experience in many areas of senior living. When I was approached about the opportunity to become the Sales and Marketing Director at Arbor View Senior Living, I was incredibly excited and didn’t hesitate to say yes. Being able to help families find the right home and support system for their loved ones is something I truly enjoy every day.

Patch: What's the most common piece of advice you give to customers?
Sarah Smith: The biggest piece of advice I give families is to start exploring senior living options sooner rather than later. Waiting until a crisis happens can make the process feel overwhelming, while planning ahead allows families the time to ask questions, tour communities and truly find the right fit for their loved one. I also always encourage families to look beyond just care needs and focus on finding a community that genuinely feels comfortable, welcoming and like home.

Patch: What’s the most satisfying part of your job?
Sarah Smith: The most satisfying part of my job is getting to help residents and families through such an important chapter in their lives and watching that transition turn into something positive. Moving into senior living can feel emotional and overwhelming at first, but I love being able to build relationships with families, guide them through the process and help them feel comfortable and confident every step of the way. There’s something incredibly rewarding about seeing a resident who may have been nervous in the beginning start to truly feel at home — making friends, getting involved in the community, and finding joy in their day-to-day life again. Being able to play a role in creating that sense of comfort, happiness and peace of mind for both residents and their families is what makes this work so meaningful to me.

Patch: How would you say your business or organization distinguishes itself from the others?
Sarah Smith: Arbor View Senior Living stands out to me because of how personal everything feels. Having worked in several areas of senior living over the years — from the front desk to memory care and now sales and marketing — I’ve seen firsthand how important it is for residents and families to feel genuinely seen, heard and supported. At Arbor View Senior Living, that’s something we truly prioritize every day. We’re not a huge community where people get lost in the shuffle. Our residents know each other, our team members know our residents personally, and families become part of our community too. I love being able to walk through the building and have real conversations with residents, hear their stories and watch friendships form.

Many of our residents are lifelong Colorado locals, and there’s a very warm, welcoming feeling here that’s hard to describe until you experience it yourself. Our team genuinely cares about helping residents maintain their independence and quality of life for as long as possible. We understand that moving into senior living is a big transition, so we focus on making that process feel comfortable, supportive and positive from the very beginning. That personal connection and sense of community is what truly makes Arbor View Senior Living feel different.
