The company's space division is relocating some of its "Fleet Ballistic Missile" program to its headquarters in the county, according to the Jefferson County Economic Development Corporation. Lockheed is a huge economic driver for the region, the group said in a release. Its operations in the county indirectly create 10,000 jobs and generate billions of dollars for the local economy. "Over the past 60 plus years, Lockheed Martin has been a catalyst for the county's aerospace industry," the group said in a release. "Today, Lockheed Martin is Jefferson County's largest private-sector primary employer, with over 6,200 employees. Lockheed Martin's headquarters are in Bethesda, Maryland. The company has about 100,000 employees across the globe.
