ARVADA, CO — A man has been arrested in connection with the death of 32-year-old Alicia Banks-Newton in Arvada, police announced Monday.

Donovan Walsh, 43, faces first-degree murder charges, according to the Arvada Police Department. He was taken into custody in Globe, Arizona.

Arvada police officers were conducting a welfare check Friday around 2:15 p.m. after Walsh's family called police with information about Banks-Newton's death, police said.

Officers drafted a search warrant and searched her apartment in the 7600 block of West 67th Avenue.

Banks-Newton was not found in her apartment, but police said they discovered "concerning physical evidence."

Police obtained an arrest warrant for Walsh Sunday, and he was taken into custody. In addition to first-degree murder charges, Walsh also faces evidence tampering and domestic violence charges, police said.

Arvada police are continuing to investigate the case.
