Man Arrested In Connection With Arvada Sex Assault Cold Case
Investigators said they used new technology to solve a sex assault case from 2002.
ARVADA, CO — A man has been arrested in connection with a sexual assault cold case in Arvada, police announced Wednesday.
Brent Bloomquist, 63, faces sex assault and kidnapping charges, the Arvada Police Department said.
On May 31, 2002, a woman in her 60s was walking to her home around 10 p.m. near 80th Avenue and Hoyt Street, when she was grabbed and forced up against a fence, police said. The woman made a police report and DNA evidence was collected.

A DNA profile was developed and Detective Michael Roemer obtained a “John Doe” warrant so the case would not be lost based on the statute of limitations.

With the assistance of United Data Connect, a familial DNA profile was developed and eventually led investigators to Bloomquist, police said. He was arrested Wednesday morning, and remains in custody at the Jefferson County Jail.
