Man Sentenced For Deadly Crash In Westminster

JEFFERSON COUNTY, CO — A man was sentenced to 29 years in prison for striking and killing a 71-year-old woman with his vehicle in Westminster, the First Judicial District Attorney's office announced Monday.

Juan Ignacio Duran, 30, pleaded guilty Nov. 22 to vehicular homicide, first-degree assault and attempted first-degree assault, the DA's office said.

On Dec. 28, 2018, Westminster police were called to 10633 Westminster Blvd. on a DUI report. When the officers arrived, they found Duran driving north in the southbound lanes of traffic, the DA's office said.

Duran collided with three other vehicles.

The driver of one of the vehicles, Dianne Johnson, 71, was unconscious and had to be extracted from her vehicle, the DA's office said. She was transported to the hospital, where she died. The other drivers were not seriously injured.

Duran had THC and more than twice the legal blood alcohol level in his system, authorities said.

Duran was sentenced Dec. 26 to 29 years in prison.
