New City Attorney Appointed In Arvada

Arvada City Council has appointed a new city attorney.

ARVADA, CO — After a national search, the Arvada City Council has appointed Rachel Morris as city attorney. Morris, who previously served as Arvada’s deputy city attorney, is replacing Christopher Daly, who served in the position for 24 years.

"After a detailed process, Rachel was the unanimous choice to become the next City Attorney, and we look forward to working with her and the entire legal department as we move forward," Mayor Marc Williams said in a statement.

In 2017, Morris joined the Arvada staff as the city's litigation and employment law attorney and later transitioned into the deputy position, where she managed the City Attorney's Office Civil Division. Morris oversaw all legal services in the areas of land use, litigation, employment law, open records and open meetings law and contracts.

“It is an honor to serve this community and the Arvada City Council in this capacity,” Morris said in a statement. “I am grateful for the opportunity to work with a talented team within the City Attorney’s office and across the City."

Morris is an experienced litigation, employment and municipal law attorney with a background in both the private and public sectors, the city said. Her career in private practice focused on representation of clients in civil litigation, including employment, civil rights cases, personal injury and construction matters.

The city attorney serves as the chief legal counsel for the Arvada City Council and oversees the legal aspects of all city projects and operations.
