Off-Duty Denver Detective Shot In Arvada, 1 In Custody
An off-duty Denver detective was shot and injured, authorities said.

ARVADA, CO — An off-duty Denver detective was injured in an armed robbery Wednesday morning at a Circle K gas station in Arvada, police said. A man has been taken into custody in connection with the shooting.
The man opened fire at Kipling Street and W. 80th Avenue after the off-duty detective had intervened in a robbery, police said.
Denver Police Department Chief Paul Pazen said the officer "displayed great courage" in trying to stop the armed suspect.

The victim was taken to Denver Health Medical Center in stable condition. His injuries are not life-threatening, authorities said.
A Public Safety Alert was sent to metro Denver residents early Wednesday afternoon with a description of the suspect and vehicle. Officers were looking for a gold or silver Chevrolet Equinox with damage and no rear license plate. The vehicle was last seen heading south on Wadsworth Boulevard from 72nd Avenue, police said.

"Somebody who is willing to fire on a police officer is a danger to this community," Pazen said.
Officers received a tip about the suspect's vehicle in an apartment parking lot around 5 p.m. Wednesday, and the man was found in a nearby building, police said.
The identity of the man in custody has not been released pending other possible robbery investigations, police said.
The name of the officer who was shot has not been released.
