Procession To Be Held For Firefighter Ken Jones In Jeffco

JEFFERSON COUNTY, CO — A funeral and procession will be held for firefighter Ken Jones in Jefferson County Friday morning, Summit Fire and EMS announced. The funeral is not open to the public, but officials said Jones' family would "love to see the community along the processional route." Jones was killed when he fell from the roof of a building while fighting a fire in Copper Mountain Saturday.

The procession will begin at 9 a.m. at the Horan McConaty funeral home, 3101 S. Wadsworth Boulevard in Lakewood, and travel north along S Wadsworth Blvd., then west along W Jewell Ave. The procession will then turn onto S Kipling and travel south to Morrison Road, then west to Rooney Road. The caravan will end at Waterstone Community Church.

The West Metro Fire Rescue station 8, at 9001 W. Jewell Ave, will fly an American flag from a ladder truck in remembrance of Jones.

The Lakewood Police Department announced the following road closures for the procession:

  • Morrison Road will be fully closed from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. between C-470 to Kipling;
  • Between 9 a.m. and 9:45 a.m. there will be rolling closures on portions of Kipling, Jewel and Wadsworth between C-470 and Wadsworth; and
  • Southbound C-470 will be closed from around 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. between Morrison Road and Bowles.

"All of us at the Lakewood Police Department send our heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and co-workers of fallen Summit Count County Firefighter Ken Jones," the department said in a public statement. "Thank you for your service. Rest in Peace."
