Ralston House .5K Runs Through Olde Town Arvada This Weekend

Can you run a 5K race? OK, how about three blocks?

ARVADA, CO – Have you always envied your friends who collect 5K t-shirts for good causes by power running every weekend in a different race? Here's your chance! Arvada's Ralston House .5K – that's POINT-Five K – takes place this weekend in Olde Town on Saturday, Aug. 4 and the race course is, well, about three blocks long.

The start line will begin at the Olde Town Library (7325 W 57th Ave) around 10 a.m., but be sure to get to the race early for a carb-filled pancake breakfast to help bolster your running endurance.

Even if you choose not to race, you can get down to live music by the Funk Uglies or take part in a chair massage, face painting and other fun, and family friendly, activities like balloon animals, carnival games and gawking at police and fire vehicles.

Funds raised in the race go to support Ralston House's mission, which helps children and teens –identified by law enforcement – who have experienced or been witness to physical or sexual trauma. The organization provides space (and now a new location being built in Northglenn) for law enforcement officials to conduct child-sensitive forensic interviews. Last year 1,220 children were interviewed and law enforcement agencies expect that number to pass 1,300 children this year, the agency said.

Tickets on race day cost $25 for children and seniors, $30 for adults. You can buy a family four-pack for $90 and compete with a team of ten for $200. You can also pre-register, if you want to guarantee that T-shirt. Otherwise, show up for the fun and get a T while supplies last.
