'Sense And Sensibility' Comes To Arvada Theater Black Box
Kate Hamill's "goofy and rollicking" adaptation of Jane Austen's classic novel makes a regional premiere in Arvada.

ARVADA CO -- A playful adaptation of Jane Austen's Sense and Sensibility by Kate Hamill will start the Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities Black Box season for 2018, beginning Jan. 26.
Directed by Lynne Collins, this adaptation was named Top Ten of 2014 by Ben Brantley chief theater critic of the New York Times and by the Huffington Post, which called it “the greatest stage adaptation of this novel in history.”

This rollicking, ingeniously-theatrical new adaptation of the Jane Austen classic follows the Dashwood sisters – sensibleElinor and passionate Marianne as they pursue their quest for love and happiness. When they lose their fortune, marriageis their only hope but can love and marriage go together for women without money? Surrounding them is a company ofshape-shifting actors who transform into characters, animals, and even scenery to bring Austen’s story to life in this goofy, joyous and deeply moving play.
Sense and Sensibility is presented by members of the Center’s Black Box Repertory Company of actors, most playing a number of roles, including: Regina Fernandez, Jessica Robblee, Zachary Andrews, Jessica Austgen, Abner Genece, KateGleason, Geoffrey Kent, Emma Messenger, Emelie O’Hara and Lance Rasmussen.
Performances are Thursday through Saturday at 7:30 p.m., with matinées on Wednesdays at 1:00 p.m. and Sunday at 2:00 p.m., through May 6. Preview performances are January 24 and 25 at 7:30 p.m. Post-performance audience talkbacks will be offered on Friday, February, 16 and Wednesday, March, 14. Chats with the Cast are offered before and after every performance. These are informal discussions held in the Black Box Lobby, give patrons the opportunity to ask questions and learn more about the play.
