This flirty, fun, feminist comedy is a bold new take on Aphra Behn’s restoration classic The Rover, adapted by Denver playwright Jessica Austgen. Helen, a novice nun, and Florie Mae, her nightclub singing sister, take to the streets of 1916 New Orleans during Mardi Gras in a last-ditch effort to save their departed daddy’s dance club. The going may be rough, but the St. Claire sisters won’t let a host of dingy Storyville denizens—an overly-protective older brother, a rakish rover, and a disgruntled gangster’s moll—stand in their way as they discover their destinies and ultimately find love.

Sin Street Social Club is presented by members of the Arvada Center’s Black Box Repertory Company of actors, directors, technical artists, and designers. Audiences will see the repertory actors throughout the season in a variety of roles. Since the company’s inception in 2017, the Black Box Repertory and its creative staff have been recognized as a groundbreaking and relevant component of the Colorado theatre community. For information on the two other plays performed in repertory, The Diary of Anne Frank (through May 17) and The Moors (through May 18), go to https://arvadacenter.org/2018-2019-arvada-center-theatre-season.
