Sylvan Learning in Broomfield Under New Ownership
Arvada resident Christine Rector is celebrating her breast cancer survival by becoming new owner.

From Sylvan Learning: Arvada resident Christine Rector is celebrating her breast cancer survival by becoming the new owner of Broomfield's Sylvan Learning. Rector’s son, Christopher, is a tutor at the location, and he told his mother earlier in 2018 that the current owner may be looking for a new person to purchase the location. Rector was interested in the opportunity to become the new owner of the location and to continue providing Sylvan’s educational programs to the community.
“I experienced some personal hardships including, being diagnosed with breast cancer in 2013, a divorce in 2015 and losing my mother in 2017. I realized I needed a change, to give back and do something worthwhile.,” Rector said.
For eight years, Rector was involved with the Family Ministry at Broomfield United Methodist Church, where she developed a passion for early childhood education. After taking two education courses at Front Range Community College, she was inspired to start her own storytelling event business, Ctales, in 2017. “I have always had a desire to help children reach their fullest potential and to succeed in life. When volunteering at my children’s schools over the years, I had always loved mentoring and spending time with children – especially those who needed a little extra attention” Rector said.

“That is why when I had a chance to become a Sylvan franchisee this year, I jumped at the opportunity.”
She hopes to turn the Sylvan location into a family-run business, with the help of her sons, Sean and Christopher.
“Christopher is still a tutor while attending graduate school to become a professor for chemistry and math, and Sean is completing his undergraduate degree in marketing,” Rector said.
