After Ticket For Dogs In Car, Man Spit On Boulder Cops [WATCH]

A female officer was struck by a car door and a cyclist was almost hit as Clint Martinez, 21, allegedly sped away from the scene.

BOULDER, CO – Boulder police are asking for the public's help identifying a cyclist who was nearly struck by a fleeing car the evening of July 21. A female officer was struck by a car door after the driver allegedly spit on her and called her an obscene name. Boulder police released officer body cam footage of the incident.

Officers responded to reports of two dogs locked inside a hot car around 8:30 p.m. near the Rio Grande Restaurant at 1101 Walnut St., Boulder police said. They found a black Pontiac Coupe in front of the restaurant with two dogs inside. The dogs were panting inside the vehicle and without water, police said.

Officers were able to contact the owner of the Pontiac, Clint Martinez, II, 21, of Arvada, on his phone. He agreed to come outside and spoke to police, who gave him a warning and told him to take the dogs home. After telling police he needed to pay his check, Martinez allegedly disappeared for 30 minutes and officers caught him exiting through another door with an ice cream cone.

The body cam footage shows a female officer writing a ticket and handing it to Martinez through his car window. Police said he was cited for improper car of animals. After receiving the citation, Martinez allegedly called the two female officers an obscenity and spat on one officer. The officer opened the car door to take him into custody, but Martinez allegedly put the Pontiac into reverse and backed out at high speed, hitting her with the open car door and almost hitting a passing bicyclist.

Boulder police didn't pursue Martinez, for safety reasons they said. The injured officer received medical care for non-life-threatening injuries.

Officers arrested Martinez July 25 in Arvada. He was taken to Jefferson County jail and posted a $25,000 cash surety bond the next day, said Catherine Olguin of the Boulder District Attorney's Office.

Martinez's next date in Boulder County District Court is scheduled for Aug. 8.

Boulder police are asking that anyone who was a witness to this incident or can identify the bicyclist to call 303-441-4329.
