Here are the top stories today in Boulder:

  1. Commissioners reject plan to extract county-owned minerals. The Boulder County Commissioners unanimously rejected a lease proposal to Extraction Oil & Gas, which would have included horizontal drilling (fracking) under Boulder County owned land. (BOCO)
  2. Frozen Dead Guy Days cancels its 2023 event. The infamous event has had its own share of problems since the global pandemic hit, and according to organizers, the Town of Nederland has put the final nail in the proverbial coffin for next years' festival. (7News)
  3. Colorado books another outdoor industry show. After the Outdoor Retailer trade show headed back to Utah, the outdoor industry jumped into action and has successfully recruited the Big Gear Show, which will attract global, national and regional outdoor brands back to the state. (Gazette)
  4. The Alpacas don't know it, but they're helping grow hemp. A Boulder farm has added 10 alpacas that will provide plenty of manure that is then used to fertilize the hemp that Miraflora Naturals uses in its hemp products. (5280)
  5. Fear of the future is driving vote on CU South. After the City of Boulder approved the annexation agreement in 2021, a group of residents that were already grappling with letting go of the land that CU has owned, and planned to develop for decades, got enough signatures to put the measure up for a public vote.
