Altitude Sickness, Fallen Climber: 2 Rescued In Boulder Co.

A woman had to be carried out of a night hike with vertigo and sickness, and a man fell off a rock, injuring his back and ankle.

BOULDER COUNTY, CO – Two mountain recreators were rescued by Boulder County Sheriff's deputies and other first responders Thursday.

The first call came in around 1:30 a.m. regarding a 45-year-old female hiker on a night hike, who had become with altitude sickness. Rescuers found the hiker about 1 ½ miles up Buchanan Pass Trail, in Allenspark, where she had experienced vertigo and became sick, the sheriff's office said. The woman was unable to walk and was taken back to the trailhead by rescue workers in a stretcher.

Along with sheriff's deputies, emergency personnel from Allens Park Fire Department, Rocky Mountain Rescue, and Estes Ambulance responded. The woman was treated by medical personal on scene and not transported to the hospital, the sheriff's office said.

Fallen Climber Injured at Monkey Skull climbing area

Later that day, a 30 year-old male climber fell around six feet off the “Monkey Skull” climbing area located near 25,000 S. Saint Vrain Dr. west of Lyons. He injured his ankle and back, the sheriff's office said.

Members of Lyons Fire Rescue, Rocky Mountain Rescue and Boulder County Sheriff’s Office responded and he was taken to a hospital with "reportedly minor injuries."
