Here are the top stories today in Boulder:

  1. There's now an app to save Colorado's pika population. Turns out that climate change is impacting more than just the weather. In Colorado, above 8,000 feet, the furry mouse-like pikas may be at risk because the changing climate conditions. In an effort to support the dwindling population of the pika, the Colorado Pika Project has launched the "Pika Patrol" app. The hope is that the app will aid wildlife researchers study and track Colorado's pika population. (Summit Daily)
  2. Here's a list of the top 10 vehicles stolen in metro Denver. Colorado continues to lead the nation in motor vehicle thefts. In the first six months of 2022, the rate of thefts has increased by nearly 20 percent. Here's a list of the vehicles stolen the most. (FOX 31)
  3. Will the proposed grocery store merger affect your bottom line? The proposed merger of King Soopers and Albertsons will likely increase the price of groceries, along with a number of store closures and employee layoffs. (KDVR)
  4. Who's running for this November for the CU Board of Regents? The University of Colorado Board of Regents is the governing body of Colorado's largest higher education system. There are four seats up for election this year. The board oversees the educational system's budget and overall operations. (CPR)
  5. Colorado Highway Patrol doing winter tire and chain checks. Don't be fooled by the warm fall days, winter is coming, and Colorado's Traction Law went into effect in Sept. 1 on I-70. Passenger vehicles must meet several standards, like four-wheel drive and minimum tread depths. Commercial vehicles must have tire chains ready to go. (CBS4)
