AR-15 Ban Advances In Boulder With Unanimous Vote
The ban of AR-15 assault-style weapons, bumps stocks and jumbo magazines faces a third Boulder city council vote.

BOULDER, CO -- The Boulder City Council voted unanimously Tuesday night to advance a ban on sale and possession of AR-15 assault-style weapons, bump stocks, and high capacity magazines in the city.
Citizens pro and against spoke at the four-hour city council meeting (watch below, starting at 1:53).
All semiautomatic rifles that have the capacity to accept a detachable magazine could not be sold or possessed under the law, with exemptions for law enforcement and military personnel. According to the ordinance, bump stock owners in Boulder will have to get rid of them within 30 days of the ordinance's passing. Jumbo magazines will have to be given up by Dec. 31.

"There is great concern among some about the prospect of gun owners having to be listed on any city registry. Many have already threatened to protest the law, including the registration aspect of it," wrote Daily Camera reporter Alex Burness.
One city council member worried that the vote would be symbolic, she said.

"One of the things I've been concerned about with this proposed ordinance is that it creates an illusion of safety, a false sense of security," Councilwoman Mary Young said. "I hope that if this ordinance passes, that people are aware that this is not going to be the be all to end all. It is, and will be, mostly a symbolic gesture."
