Boulder County Commissioners Approve New Climate Action Policies

The Board of County Commissioners has approved policies recommended by the Colorado Communities for Climate Action coalition.

BOULDER COUNTY, CO — The Board of County Commissioners voted 2-0 in support of updated climate action policies that were developed by the Colorado Communities for Climate Action coalition. The new policies pave the way for action at all levels of government.

The new platform includes statewide and local climate strategies, energy generation, energy efficiency, transportation, fossil fuel extraction activities and solid waste reduction.

Commissioners Deb Gardner and Matt Jones voted in support of the coalition's recommendations. Commissioner Elise Jones, who also serves as a member of the Colorado Air Quality Control Commission, abstained from the discussion and the vote.

Colorado Communities for Climate Action is a coalition of 27 local governments across the state that advocate for stronger state and federal climate policies. The coalition is governed by a steering committee of representatives from member communities.

The coalition's priorities were adopted by the Colorado General Assembly this year and signed into law by Governor Jared Polis.

The two top priorities include creating aggressive statewide carbon pollution targets and starting a new initiative to track and update an inventory of Colorado’s greenhouse gas emissions.
