Boulder County Coronavirus Update: 260 New Cases Confirmed

BOULDER COUNTY, CO — Over the past week, 260 new cases of the coronavirus have been confirmed in Boulder County, according to public health data. Since students moved onto the University of Colorado Boulder campus Aug. 24, 178 cases have been confirmed, officials said.

As of Thursday, 2,621 people in the county had tested positive for the virus since the outbreak began. The death toll has remained at 79 over the past two weeks.

Around 951 people have recovered and 198 have been hospitalized since the outbreak began, according to Boulder County Public Health. More than 59,600 people have been tested in the county.

The agency released the following municipal breakdown of case numbers in the county, which include both probable and confirmed cases as of Thursday:

In unincorporated Boulder County, three new cases have been reported over the past week, and there have been 189 cases since the outbreak began, the data shows.

Throughout July, Longmont had the highest rate of cases per 100,000 people, but over the past month, Boulder has had the highest rates:

• Boulder: 1008.9
• Longmont: 843.8
• Lafayette: 780.7
• Louisville: 675.1

Wastewater testing at CU Boulder detected the coronavirus in four residence halls Aug.31. The virus was found in samples from Darley North, Darley South, Libby Hall and Willard Hall, university officials said.

All students and staff at the four halls were required to undergo testing after the sample results were announced. Those who tested positive went into quarantine, officials said.

As of Thursday, 35 of CU Boulder's 249 isolation spaces were occupied.

Over the past week, 1,898 new cases of the coronavirus have been reported in Colorado, according to public health data. As of Thursday, 60,185 people have been infected with the coronavirus in our state among 760,610 people who have been tested since the outbreak began, health officials confirmed.

Around 7,186 people have been hospitalized, and the death toll has reached 1,889.
