Boulder County Coronavirus Update: 85 New Cases Confirmed

Here's the latest news about the coronavirus in Boulder County, and a case breakdown by municipality and CU Boulder.

BOULDER COUNTY, CO — Over the past week, 85 new cases of the coronavirus have been confirmed in Boulder County, according to public health data.

As of Thursday, 2,271 people in the county had tested positive for the virus since the outbreak began. The death toll has reached 79.

Around 898 people have recovered and 195 have been hospitalized since the outbreak began, according to Boulder County Public Health. More than 41,229 people have been tested in the county.

Since Sunday, nine new cases have been confirmed on the CU Boulder campus. Between Aug. 17 and Aug. 22 — the university's move-in week — 16 cases were reported.

Boulder County Public Health released the following municipal breakdown of case numbers in the county, which include both probable and confirmed cases as of Thursday:

In unincorporated Boulder County, six new cases have been reported over the past two weeks, and there have been 172 cases since the outbreak began, the data shows.

Throughout July, Longmont had the highest rate of cases per 100,000 people, but throughout August, Boulder has had the highest rates:

  • Boulder: 802
  • Longmont: 791
  • Lafayette: 739
  • Louisville: 642

CU Boulder officials have spent months working with Boulder County Public Health to plan students' safe return to in-person classes, but large student gatherings have been reported on the school's campus. University officials have identified some of the students who attended the gatherings, and they have been threatened with suspension.

Over the past week, 2,113 new cases of the coronavirus have been reported in Colorado, according to public health data.

As of Thursday, 56,343 people have been infected with the coronavirus in our state among 687,530 people who have been tested since the outbreak began, health officials confirmed.

Around 6,928 people have been hospitalized, and the death toll has reached 1,835.
