Boulder Cyclist Critically Injured In Hit-And-Run

Andrew Bernstein's family is seeking answers after the 34-year-old was left for dead on the side of Arapahoe Road.

BOULDER, CO — Friends, family and supporters of Andrew Bernstein continue to circulate social media posts asking for any information on the hit-and-run that left the 34-year-old critically injured. Colorado State Patrol is investigating the crash after finding a piece of the vehicle that hit him. Troopers believe the fragment belongs to a 2000 Dodge utility van.

Bernstein was biking west on a flat stretch of Arapahoe Road near Legion Park around 4:30 p.m. Saturday when he was struck from behind, his family said. Bernstein's fiancee, Gloria Liu, said there were no witnesses.

A passing driver spotted Bernstein and called 911. The cyclist was taken to Boulder Community Health's Foothills Hospital, and later airlifted to Denver Health.

Bernstein suffered severe internal injuries, broken bones and a fractured vertebrae.

Bernstein is a leader in Colorado's cycling community, and a former journalist for Bicycling magazine.

Bernstein's ER doctor said there was no way the driver who hit him would have been unaware of the crash, the magazine reported. His fiancee told the publication that fragments of yellow plastic from the right-hand turn signal were left on the road.

Bernstein has been sedated since the crash.
