Here are the top stories today in Boulder:

  1. Denver expecting a rough winter at Union Station for homeless and drug use. When colder temperatures drop, both RTD and the City of Denver are expecting an uptick in crime at the transit station this winter as those without homes move toward warmer areas. (Denverite)
  2. With warmer temperatures, new alert to be used. The National Weather Service in Colorado is adopting a new type of heat warning index. The new system is called HeatRisk and it relies on local climate data to determine how much hotter temperatures will than normal, and what could be hazardous to humans. (KHN)
  3. Rising crime in Boulder matches increases across the state. The lack of mental healthcare resources have contributed to the increasing crime in Boulder, and increased crime is happening in other communities across the state, too. Some believe that the state needs to step in and provide better mental health facilities as a way to reduce petty crime. (7News)
  4. Artists reflect on how the pandemic changed how they made art. Surviving the pandemic has been a challenge for CU Boulder's art community. Undergraduates, educators and graduate students and curators navigated a new world that created challenges and opportunities for their creative inspiration. (CU Independent)
  5. Tensions rising over speeding e-bikes on trails. Communities are mostly welcoming those that use e-bikes, but a battle is brewing on whether or not to allow them on off-road trails. (CO Sun)
