Boulder Hiker, 61, Found Dead Near Flatirons
A hiker found a Boulder man unresponsive on a trail near Mesa Trail, the Boulder Sheriff's Office reported.

BOULDER, CO -- A hiker was found unresponsive Thursday morning on the Mesa Trail near the Boulder Flatirons, the Boulder County Sheriff's Office said. Around 11:30 a.m. the sheriff's office received a 9-1-1 call that a hiker had found an unconscious man on the social hiking trail that branched off the Mesa Trail, which is approximately one mile above the Bluebell Shelter near Chautauqua Park, the sheriff's office said in a press release.
Emergency workers and the hiker who found him tried to perform CPR on the man, who was identified as a 61-year-old Boulder resident, but he was pronounced dead at 12:20 p.m., the statement said.
The initial reports of a fallen climber who may have suffered a head injury proved to be inaccurate and the initial investigation suggests the man's death is consistent with natural causes. The man did not suffer any trauma to his body and there were no suspicious circumstances noted during the initial scene investigation. As such, foul play is not suspected.
The Boulder County Coroner's Office is expected to release the man's name and cause of death, the sheriff's office said.
