Boulder Hiker Injured In Rock Fall, Rescued

Falling rocks injured a hiker who was carried out of Dream Canyon by emergency workers.

BOULDER, CO -- A hiker whose knee was lacerated by falling rocks was carried out of Dream Canyon by Boulder County emergency workers Monday. Rescuers used ropes, a gurney, and muscle to carry the victim over steep terrain back to a command post.

According the the Boulder County Sheriff's Office, the 29-year-old male hiker slipped after rocks fell and injured his knee in Dream Canyon near the 300 block of N. Gulch Road. Companion hikers summoned emergency help, and applied a make-shift tourniquet (made from rope). The victim did not lose consciousness, the sheriff's office said.

Emergency responders from the following agencies helped with the call: Boulder County Sheriff's Office, Boulder County Emergency Services, Rocky Mountain Rescue Group (RMR), American Medical Response (AMR), and Sugarloaf Fire Protection District, the sheriff's office said.

After emergency workers got the injured man back to Gulf Road, he was taken to a hospital, the sheriff's office said.
