Boulder Police Arrest Suspect Connected To Saturday Stabbing

BOULDER, CO —The Boulder Police Department announced that it has arrested a suspect in connection to a stabbing that took place Saturday on Arapahoe Avenue.

Desmond H. Derrick, 50, was apprehended on Thursday, according to police. He was charged with first-degree murder and first-degree assault, and his bond was set at $100,000.

According to police, at approximately 6:22 p.m. Saturday, offers were called to the 2500 block of Araphoe Ave. after the report of an assault. At the scene, officers found an adult male who had been stabbed. The victim was taken to a local hospital and is in stable condition, authorities said.

The police department said that after the incident, its investigators canvassed the area, gathering information and speaking to witnesses. Using that information, officers were able to identify a suspect.

On Thursday, according to Boulder police, a patrol officer spotted the suspect and detained him. Derrick was found to be carrying a knife.

"I'm incredibly proud of the great police work done by both patrol and detectives on this case," said Maris Herold, chief at the Boulder Police Department. "This was a very violent crime and our officers were able to swiftly identify the suspect and get him off the streets."
