Here are the top stories today in Boulder:

  1. Boulder Shelter for the Homeless has a new CEO. BSH will welcome a new leader in early October. Greg Morris will take over running the shelter for the homeless from Spencer Downing, who has served as the interim chief executive last October. (BizWest)
  2. Boulder considering how to provide access for e-bikes on open space trails. Boulder's Open Space and Mountain Parks received over 2,300 responses to a survey this summer about providing trail access to e-bike riders. Find out more about the process here: (Boulder)
  3. South Boulder Recreation Center getting a new gym floor. Last year, a boiler burst and flooded the gym. Now Boulder Parks and Recreation is busy fixing up the ailing building in South Boulder with a new gym floor, as well as repairing the leaking swimming pool. (Boulder)
  4. Colorado's clean energy transition program is at a crossroads. Last August, the Colorado Public Utilities Commission announced retirement deadlines for all remaining coal-fired power plants, but challenges still exist to meet aggressive 2030 goals. (Daily Sentinel)
  5. Another round of TABOR refunds likely next spring. As Colorado's economy has rebounded from the pandemic, it has collected more taxes. Because of the state's Taxpayer Bill of Rights, when revenues exceed the proscribed spending limits, it has to refund the money back to taxpayers. Refunds, based on your income, could range from $160 to around $600. (CPR)
