Boulder Snow Removal Reminders: City Plan, Resident Rules

BOULDER, CO — As Boulder continues to face frigid temperatures and snowy roadways, city officials are reminding residents of their responsibilities and city's snow removal plan. Access to hospitals, schools, transit and critical infrastructure has been prioritized; however, the city does not usually plow side and residential streets, officials said.

The city's job is to clear:

• Emergency routes;
• Primary and secondary streets —view full map here;
• On-street bike lanes;
• Streets with steep slopes; and
• All multi-use paths and designated bus stops.

Snow and ice removal requests for streets that are not regularly plowed can be made through Inquire Boulder. The Transportation Maintenance team will inspect the area and will service depending on conditions and after prioritized streets and multi-use paths are cleared.

Residents must clear snow as quickly as possible and no later than 24 hours after the snow stops falling. Sidewalks must be cleared of snow and ice as needed after the first shoveling. Failure to remove snow may result in fines and payment for a private snow removal contractor.

Senior citizens and physically disabled persons who are unable to clear snow from their sidewalks may receive assistance through the Cultivate SnowBusters Program. Call 303-442-1933 for more details and enrollment information.

Important reminders:

• Check the National Weather Service snowfall report and look for the last recording of "Light Snow" or "Snow" to determine when your sidewalks need to be cleared.
• Don't plow or shovel snow into any street or alleyway.
• Plows may need to push snow onto curbs and sidewalks to keep the streets clear.
• Report sidewalk violations through Inquire Boulder or by calling Code Enforcement at 303-441-3333.
